Been an interesting time (not!). I'll post a few pics so you can see the damage done to the top east cost of the South Island, about 70 miles as the crow flies from me. There were two earthquakes separate by about 100 kilometers, one an upthrust and the other a slip thrust, which odcurred more or less similtaneously. one a 7.1 the other a 7.8. The land has risen up, this was previously a flat section of road And the earth was rent... State Highway 1, East Coast of the South Island along the Kiakoura coastline - it is under the rubble The seabed is no longer seabed
